YOUR WOOLWICH PTC
The PTC would like to THANK all the parents, staff
and students for all
your support and help this year. We are already looking towards
next
year and we realize there are parents and staff who are interested in
the
PTC but can't make meetings, etc. We have set up a blog which
will list
the PTC's activities, where help might be needed, etc. The web
address
is: http://www.woolwichptc.blogspot.com/
We hope you will check it out, sign up for updates
and consider getting
involved with the PTC.
BACK TO BOXTOPS !!
It's time to send in all those BoxTops you have
carefully collected ! As you may recall, last year, WCS
earned $1145.00 from the BoxTop program.....and that is free
money for our kids. Please continue to collect them,
ask your relatives and neighbors to collect them, and send them
in to WCS with your children. There is also a brand
new collection box at the Woolwich town office, so spread
the word.....people can drop BoxTops off at school or at
the town office. Thank you for your help, Questions or ideas ??
Feel free to call me or
e-mail me. Michelle Rines, BoxTops

WHAT IS THE PTC?
PTC
stands for
Parents, Teachers, Community. Historically, the PTC has
been a small
group of parents who work to raise money and assist with school
programs. We have a large sales based fundraiser early in
the fall.
This fundraiser usually makes between $5000 and $8000 which is
used to
fund enrichment programs during the school year, and to buy
equipment
for the school that doesn't fit into the budget. The 7th
and 8th
graders keep their earnings from the fundraiser for their
Washington
DC trip. Some of the funds go to help classroom teachers
with general
supplies and support. Last year the teachers received
Welcome Back
packages that included office supplies and small things for the
classroom. We also gave each classroom teacher a small
amount of
money for needs not covered in the budget that they can use at
their
own discretion. We have supported the school in a variety
of other
ways including providing literary magazine supplies, a hand
sanitizer
system, books for every classroom through the Scholastic Book
Fair,
scripts for the drama club, software programs, a soccer training
goal,
and an annual award for two 8th graders who demonstrate a
commitment
to the school. Money has been set aside to build a track
around the
playground. We subsidize several Scholastic Book Fairs where
books
are between 30% to 50% off. We coordinate a printer cartridge
recycling
program. Each
year is different and we try to respond as the needs for the
school
change. The PTC meets in the evening for an hour or so
every month or
two to plan events and to discuss requests for funds. The
notices for
the meetings are in the school newsletter. We are
always
eager for new parents and new ideas and it is not necessary to
attend
meetings to participate. If you have any questions, please
feel free
to call Maggie Gardiner at 442-9000.
