Woolwich Wellness

WELLNESS WISHES
A new wellness policy is being adopted by all schools in RSU #1 using parts of our and others presently existing policies.  I will share highlights from the new policy that our school will be going by so all can see and have the same information.
“The Board recognized that student wellness and good nutrition are related to students’ physical and psychological well being and their readiness to learn.  The Board is committed to providing a school environment that supports student wellness, healthy food choices, nutrition education, and regular physical activity  The Board believes that students who learn and practice healthy lifestyles in their formative years may be more likely to be conscious of the importance of  good nutrition and exercise as adults, practice healthy habits, and reduce their risk of obesity, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses.” Roberta Sherwood, R.N., B.S.N., M.Ed Wellness Committee Member in Woolwich

Wellness Policy
As you may have heard or read, our children are becoming increasingly overweight and sometimes obese at an alarming and epidemic level both State wide and nationally.  We at Woolwich have recognized this huge issue and have developed a wellness policy that focuses on exercise and healthy food choices  for our students.  It is our hope that positive role models both at home and at school will assist our students in making healthy choices both in food decisions and increased activity.
We have many celebrations in the near future from Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc.  where you may feel compelled to cook and send into school those attractive  cupcakes and "interesting " scary pastries for Halloween, etc.  We are asking you, however, to support our initiative for healthy food choices for all our students by sending in delicious veggie platters and  healthy snacks for these holiday treats.  Help us help your children in becoming healthy and productive Woolwich citizens.
Thanks. Mr. Soule and the Wellness Committee
Sincerely,   The Wellness Team Members - Ellen Beal, Beth Harrington, Roberta Sherwood, Darcy EmersonTom Soule, Zach Holbrook, Elliot Crews, Addie Beach
